Barbara Roake and about twenty Lisle mothers wanted to open a library in Lisle. The ladies had their first meeting on October 2, 1963 at the Lisle Community High School. Barbara was the first Lisle Woman's Club President 

The Barbara Roake Service Award recognizes a Lisle Woman’s Club member who has contributed to our club in different ways over her years of service. She may have volunteered her time to our many fundraisers and events, chaired a committee, served on the Executive Board, or all of the above. She is someone who has made a difference in our club and has made our club better because of it.

She organized collections for Midwest Shelter for
Veterans, Operation Support our Troops and local Food pantries. She also organizes yearly Holiday gifts for local families.
